Pride was not created for men, nor fierce anger for those born of women: Since the Lord is the one who did not create pride, Good News Translation refers to “The Creator.” Men and those born of women are rendered “human beings” in Good News Translation (similarly Contemporary English Version), and fierce anger is expressed as “violence.” Alternative models for this verse are:

• When the Lord created human beings, he did not intend them to be proud and violent.

• … pride and violence were not part of his plan for them.
