The psalm closes with an affirmation of faith in Yahweh (literally “the name of Yahweh”; see 5.11), creator of heaven and earth (see 121.2). Our help is in the name of the LORD means “Our help comes from the Lord himself” (Bible en français courant). The phrase is in the name of (Revised Standard Version, New English Bible, New International Version) is not natural English idiom; it is translationese. New Jerusalem Bible has “Our help is the name of the LORD.” In languages in which a verb must be used for help, it may be necessary to say, for example, “The LORD is the one who helps us. He is the one who made the heavens and the earth.”
