Translation commentary on Numbers 27:22

The expressions in verses 22-23 are the same as in the preceding verses and should be translated correspondingly here to indicate that Moses carried out the LORD’s directions exactly. Such repetition is often used in Hebrew narrative for this purpose.

And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: The theme of Moses’ total obedience to the LORD is repeated here as the ministry of Moses gradually draws to its close (so Brown, page 253). This clause may be rendered “So Moses did exactly what the LORD had commanded him.”

He took Joshua: See verse 18.

And caused him to stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation: See verse 19.
