Moses said to the LORD: Moses responded to the LORD with a prayer, asking him to choose a fitting leader for the people. The Hebrew waw conjunction (literally “And”) at the beginning of this verse, which Revised Standard Version and Good News Bible omit, may be rendered “Then” (New Living Translation). In this context the generic verb said may be translated “prayed” (Good News Bible) or “replied” (Contemporary English Version).
