Translation commentary on Leviticus 4:4

The beginning of this ritual is very similar to the one for the whole burnt offering; see 1.3-5.

To the door of the tent of meeting before the LORD: if the priest is at the entrance to the Tent, it is implied that he is in the presence of the LORD. For this reason the words before the LORD may be left implicit in some languages. This is especially true since the same phrase is again repeated at the end of this verse. If, however, the use of repetition for emphasis is natural in the receptor language, then it should be retained.

Lay his hand on the head of the bull: see 1.4.

Kill: or better “slaughter.” See 1.5.
