That your generations may know: or “in order to remind your descendants…,” or perhaps “so that those who come after you may be aware….”

I: if indirect discourse is being used, the occurrences of the pronoun will have to be changed, as in Good News Translation.

The people of Israel: this may be more naturally translated in some languages as “their ancestors” in the context of this verse.

Booths: even those versions that translate the same word “tabernacles” in verse 34 and elsewhere are forced to use a simpler term here, since the context is considerably different. Some other renderings are “arbours” (New English Bible), “booths” (New International Version), and “shelters” (Jerusalem Bible). The idea is that of “temporary quarters.” See the discussion under verse 34 as well as the section heading at verse 33.
