Besides the sabbaths …: as indicated in the Good News Translation rendering, this shows that the special annual festivals are in addition to the regular weekly celebrations of the people of Israel. It will be better in most languages to make this verse a separate sentence rather than attempting to follow Revised Standard Version, which makes one sentence of the two verses. The fourfold repetition of besides may be quite unnatural in the receptor language. The meaning, however, is adequately conveyed by the single expression “in addition to…,” as in Good News Translation, New American Bible, and Moffatt.
