Is anointed and consecrated: literally “whom he [indefinite] anointed him and whose hand he [indefinite] has filled to be a priest.” The passive forms of Revised Standard Version may be translated actively with an impersonal subject, “they have (or, someone has) anointed and consecrated….” This construction is, in fact, closer to the Hebrew. As priest: that is, as the High Priest.

In his father’s place: or “to replace his father,” or “as a successor to his father.”

Make atonement: see 1.4.

Holy linen garments: literally “the linen garments, the holy garments.” The second expression in Hebrew emphasizes the fact that this clothing is reserved for a particular purpose. See verse 4.
