This verse may be seen as containing four different clauses. The first two may be related as follows: “Since he has a dreaded skin disease, he is unclean” or “this man is unclean because he has a dreaded skin disease.” The relationship between the third and fourth sentence is also one of cause and effect: “The priest must pronounce the man unclean because of the disease on his head.” The words “because of” do not appear in Revised Standard Version, but something similar should probably be found in most dynamic translations. In addition to Good News Translation, the following versions also clearly indicate this causal relationship: New International Version, An American Translation, and New American Bible.
