Plenty of food for every man: Plenty of food refers to grain and other food apart from the meat described in verse 17.
Royal palace is literally “house of the king.” Here it is simply a term for “the royal treasury” (so Good News Translation, Contemporary English Version), “the place where the king kept his money.”
Good News Translation uses the passive verb “received,” but in languages that do not have the passive voice one may translate as follows:
• They gave each soldier plenty of food and a large amount of gold and silver from the king’s treasury.
