Your hope will never depart from the hearts of men: For Your hope Good News Translation has “Your trust in God,” and New English Bible has “The sure hope which inspired you.” They both read the common text of the Greek. Your hope is a bit ambiguous, as its renderings in Good News Translation and New English Bible demonstrate. There is, however, an important variant in some manuscripts, and there is good reason to think it original. This is “your praise,” and it is adopted by New Revised Standard Version and Moore. Will never depart from the hearts of men may also be expressed as “will never be forgotten by people” or “People will never forget.” If the emended text is used, the meaning for the whole verse is “Whenever people recount the eternal power of God, they will never forget to praise you.” An appropriate footnote would read: “to praise you; some manuscripts and versions have your hope.” The Handbook recommends this.
