This verse is inverted in Good News Translation. The Greek order is represented by Revised Standard Version: “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.” For English readers the restructuring found in Good News Translation is more natural. Note also New English Bible: “If there is love among you, then all will know that you are my disciples.”

The love referred to in verse 35 is the same kind of love indicated in the previous verse. It is possible to translate verse 35 “If you love one another in this way, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.”
