Then Zophar the Naamathite answered: see 2.11 for suggestions regarding the names Zophar and Naamathite. See comments on 4.1 for the prose formula Then … answered. The marker that is used to translate Then should show that the action has now shifted forward to the next scene and signals a change in speaker. In some languages it may be necessary to say, for example, “After Job had finished speaking,” “When Job stopped talking,” or “When Job became silent again.” In some languages it will be best to avoid using the word “answer” and say, for example, “When Job stopped talking, Zophar was the next one to speak to him.”
