Translation commentary on Jeremiah 52:3

This verse is somewhat awkward in Hebrew, but even more so in Revised Standard Version! However, the meaning seems well reflected by Good News Translation.

Surely really means something like “And so” or “Therefore” in this context, but it is more natural in many languages to omit it, as in Good News Translation.

That he cast them out from his presence probably refers to the deportation of the nation away from its land. Translators can say, for example, “that he sent them where he couldn’t see them any more.”
