They came into the land of Egypt … they arrived at Tahpanhes: The story of the move to Egypt (verses 5-7) is also recorded in 2 Kgs 25.26. In many languages it will be more natural to say “they went to the town of Tahpanhes in the land Egypt” or “they entered the land of Egypt and went as far as Tahpanhes.” See also the discussion of “took” at verse 5. For Tahpanhes see 2.16.
For they did not obey the voice of the LORD: In some languages it may be best to introduce the verse with the information contained in this second clause. See Good News Translation “They disobeyed the LORD’s command and went into Egypt as far as the city of Tahpanhes.”
