Translation commentary on Jeremiah 39:17

Deliver; that is, “protect” (Good News Translation) or “rescue” (Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch).

On that day may be rendered “when this happens.” In Good News Translation this information is left to be understood from the context.

Says the LORD: See 1.8.

Given into the hand of; that is, “placed in the power of” or “handed over to.” If an active sentence is required, translators can say “No one will hand you over.”

The men of whom you are afraid: For most English readers this sounds rather stilted. Good News Translation is much more everyday: “the people you are afraid of.”
