Translation commentary on Jeremiah 38:26

Good News Translation and a number of other common language translations introduce a new sentence at the beginning of verse 26.

Humble plea: See 36.7, where Revised Standard Version has “supplication.” Good News Translation shifts from a verb plus noun construction (made a humble plea) to a verb, “begging.” Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch is similar, except that it includes an adverbial modifier, “urgently begging.”

The house of Jonathan: See 37.15. Good News Translation expresses the essential element of being in this house: “back to prison.”
