This verse shows that Jeremiah is not totally opposed to the temple worship in Jerusalem, for he pictures the northern kingdom (Ephraim) coming there to worship the LORD. The significance of this verse is that Ephraim is the equivalent of the northern kingdom (as is “Samaria” in verse 5), as the prophet speaks of a time when the people in the north will go to Zion (“Jerusalem,” as in 3.14) to worship the LORD God. See Ephraim in 7.15. In some cases translators will render Ephraim as “region of Ephraim.”
