Notice that Good News Translation finds it more natural to change the third person the LORD their God to first person “me, the LORD their God.”
David their king, whom I will raise up for them may be misunderstood to mean “David their king, whom I will raise up from death for them.” Both Good News Translation and Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch state clearly that the person intended is “a descendant of David,” and that raise up refers to his enthronement as king.
In some languages it is helpful to repeat “serve,” as in “and they will serve a descendant of David whom I will make their king.”
