Translation commentary on Jeremiah 28:12

Revised Standard Version considerably restructures the Hebrew text, which begins “And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah after Hananiah the prophet had broken….” This conveys the sense of “shortly after that,” whereas Sometime after sounds in English like a longer period of time, possibly several days. Either interpretation is acceptable, and the difference doesn’t significantly change the basic meaning of the verse.

Good News Translation omits information already given in verse 10, and renders the entire verse “Some time after this the LORD told me.” Bible en français courant translates “But after the prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke which Jeremiah had placed upon his neck, the Lord gave Jeremiah this command.”
