Yoke-bars in Hebrew is singular (Revised English Bible, New American Bible, New Jerusalem Bible, Good News Translation “the yoke”), whereas in 27.2 the form is plural. However, the reference is obviously to the same object, which is the basis for the Revised Standard Version rendering.
Broke them: Hananiah, by breaking the yoke that Jeremiah had placed upon his neck, intends for his actions to be understood as a symbolic message from the LORD. It was for the king and the people to determine which of these messages actually had the LORD’s authority behind it.
