And when … to all the people may be expressed more briefly, as in Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch “When he finished speaking.”

Then the priests … laid hold of him may also be expressed more simply: “they grabbed me” (Good News Translation). Laid hold of can be rendered as “seized” or “grabbed” (Good News Translation).

You shall die!: This may be expressed as “You ought to be killed for this!” (Good News Translation) or “threatened him with death” (Revised English Bible).
