Translation commentary on Jeremiah 25:33

This verse, in the form of prose (see Revised Standard Version), is a comment on verse 32, and to some degree interrupts the continuity of thought between verse 32 and verse 34.

Those slain by the LORD … shall extend from one end of the earth to the other: From one end of the earth to the other is translated “All over the earth” by Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch. The whole clause can be translated “On that day, the LORD will kill people all over the earth” or “… from one end of the earth to the other, there will be the bodies of the people the LORD has killed.”

They shall not be lamented may need to be transformed to an active: “No one will mourn for them” (Good News Translation).

They shall not be … gathered, or buried: This may also need to be restructured to an active form; for example, “No one will take them away and bury them.”

They shall be dung on the surface of the ground: Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch has “They will become manure for the fields.” It may be best to change this to a simile: “They will lie on the ground like piles of manure” (Good News Translation).
