Afterward his brother came out with the scarlet thread upon his hand: Zerah is the second to be born. No explanation such as the one for Perez is given for the name Zerah, but see the Good News Translation footnote. In 1 Chr 2.6 the descendants of Zerah are more numerous than those of Perez. In Ruth 4.18-22 Perez is the ancestor of King David. See also Matt 1.3-6.
