Because the LORD has heard that I am hated: again Leah’s son is to be named because of the LORD’s action, which is heard. See Revised Standard Version and Good News Translation footnotes for the association of this name with the Hebrew verb “to hear.” As in verse 31, I am hated is more suitably expressed as “… my husband does not love me.”
