In the seventh month, on the fifteenth day of the month and for the seven days of the feast: God now turns to another of the major pilgrim festivals of the Israelites. The feast refers to the Feast of Tabernacles (see the comments on verse 17), which is also called “the Festival of Shelters” (Good News Translation, Contemporary English Version, New Living Translation; similarly New Century Version). Translators will do well if they follow these translations and identify the festival early in the verse. This should help avoid confusion. In the seventh month, on the fifteenth day of the month (which is equivalent to late September or early October in the western calendar) was the beginning of the Feast of Tabernacles. This festival also lasted seven days. A model for this whole phrase is “On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, and for the seven days of the Festival of Shelters that comes then.”

He shall make the same provision for sin offerings, burnt offerings, and cereal offerings, and for the oil: The ruler must provide the same sacrifices for the Festival of Shelters as he does for the Passover Festival, that is, the same number of animals and the same amounts of grain (or flour) and olive oil.
