And say to the rebellious house, the house of Israel: Revised Standard Version follows the Septuagint here. Instead of the rebellious house, the Hebrew text has simply “Rebellion” (Hebrew Old Testament Text Project) or “the rebellious [ones]” (King James Version, New American Standard Bible). Since the house of Israel is the next phrase, most translations combine the two phrases; for example, Good News Translation and Contemporary English Version have “those rebellious people of Israel,” and New Jewish Publication Society’s Tanakh says “the rebellious House of Israel.”

Thus says the Lord GOD: This prophetic formula stresses that the following words are the words of God and calls attention to the importance of the message. Lord renders the Hebrew word ʾadonai, and GOD renders “Yahweh” (YHWH in Hebrew).

O house of Israel, let there be an end to all your abominations: God commands the Israelites to stop doing the sinful things that they had been doing. For abominations, which may be rendered “evil ways” (Contemporary English Version) or “disgusting things” (Good News Translation), see 5.9.
