Translation commentary on Acts 26:25

In keeping with acceptable Greek style, there is no verb answered in the text, but it must be supplied from the context (see 25.22; 26.1).

The word rendered sober is a term used in other contexts as the exact opposite of mad (that is, “out of one’s mind”). The final sentence of verse 25 may be translated as “what I am saying to you is true, and I am speaking like a person completely sane.” This type of restructuring may be required, since one can speak of words as true, but only of persons as being sane.
