Translation commentary on Acts 24:24

In Greek, this verse is actually one sentence; came in the Greek sentence structure is a participle dependent upon the main verb. However, most translators prefer something similar to what the Good News Translation has, rather than to maintain the Greek sentence form. Drusilla was the youngest daughter of Herod the Great, and also the sister of Herod Agrippa II and Bernice (see 25.13). When she was only sixteen years old, Felix lured her away from her first husband, Azizus, king of Emesa.

Listened to him as he talked about faith in Christ Jesus may be rendered as “listened to Paul talking about faith in Christ Jesus” or “listened to what Paul said when he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.” However, the phrase faith in Christ Jesus may itself be best translated as a verbal expression “about believing in Christ Jesus” or “talked about what it meant to believe in Christ Jesus.”
