Translation commentary on Acts 11:16

On this verse see 1.5. The passive you will be baptized may constitute problems in certain languages in which there is no regular passive construction for the verb “baptize.” In such instances one may often employ a kind of indirect passive, for example, “you will receive baptism,” but in still other languages there is no noun for “baptism,” and therefore it is necessary to employ some agent. Under these circumstances probably the best expression is “God will baptize you with the Holy Spirit,” thus making the clause completely parallel with the statement concerning John having baptized with water.
