Translation commentary on Acts 10:45

“The of-circumcision believers” is correctly interpreted by the Good News Translation to mean the Jewish believers.

God had poured out his gift of the Holy Spirit is literally “the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out.” But this is one of those passive constructions in which a passive voice is used to describe the action of God without mentioning the name of God; that is to say, “the gift has been poured out” means “God has poured out his gift.” However, as noted in other instances, it is not possible in a number of languages to speak of “pouring out a gift.” One simply “gives to.”
