Translation commentary on 2 Kings 15:2

The usual formula for introducing a king is employed, stating the age of the king at the beginning of his reign (sixteen years old), the length of his reign (fifty-two years), the location of his capital (Jerusalem), and his mother’s name (Jecoliah) and her place of origin (Jerusalem). The only other mention of Jecoliah is in the parallel account at 2 Chr 26.3. In the Hebrew text Uzziah’s/Azariah’s mother’s name is spelled “Jecolyahu” (so Nouvelle version Segond révisée, Traduction œcuménique de la Bible, La Bible du Semeur).
