Translation commentary on 2 Esdras 8:24

Hear, O Lord, the prayer of thy servant, and give ear to the petition of thy creature; attend to my words: Everything in the prayer up to this point has been an address to God. Here Ezra asks God to hear his prayer. Essentially the request is made three times, in the three clauses of this verse. An alternative model is:

• Lord, hear my prayer. I am your servant, a creature whom you made. Listen to what I ask [from you].
