Translation commentary on 2 Chronicles 20:8

And they have dwelt in it means the Israelites settled in the land that God gave them.

And have built thee in it a sanctuary for thy name: Eventually they constructed the Temple (a sanctuary) there. For for thy name, see the comments on 2 Chr 2.1 and 6.5. This phrase may be rendered “to honor you” (Good News Translation, Contemporary English Version) or simply “for you” (New Living Translation, New Century Version).

Saying introduces an embedded quotation of the Israelites, which appears in verse 9. The precise translation of this word will depend on how the following verse is translated.
