Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, from first to last, are written …: This verse follows another common formula found frequently in 1-2 Chronicles. It sums up the remainder of a king’s reign and tells where other information about him may be found. See the comments on 1 Chr 29.29 and 2 Chr 9.29.
The chronicles of Jehu the son of Hanani, which are recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel: The parallel text of 1 Kgs 22.45 says “the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.” Here in 2 Chronicles it may be that the reference to Jehu is an additional detail and that “Judah” was changed to Israel. For Jehu the son of Hanani, see the comments on 2 Chr 19.2; for the Book of the Kings of Israel, see 1 Chr 9.1. Here Israel probably refers to the southern kingdom of Judah only. The author of 2 Chronicles often refers to the southern kingdom as Israel (see the comments on 2 Chr 12.1).
