Verses 13-14 follow the conclusion of the usual formula for the death and burial of a king.

And Asa slept with his fathers, dying …: For slept with his fathers, see the comments on 2 Chr 9.31. Dying is literally “and he died.” But since a literal translation would be absurdly out of chronological order, the meaning is surely “having died” (NASB).

Good News Translation radically restructures this verse and avoids the expression slept with his fathers. Instead of saying in the forty-first year of his reign, it simply picks up on the previous verse where the thirty-ninth year of Asa’s reign is mentioned and says simply “Two years later he died.”
