Translation commentary on 2 Chronicles 14:2

This verse is the first verse in chapter 14 of the Hebrew text.

And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God: To say that a ruler did what was … right in the eyes of the LORD is quite common in 2 Chronicles (24.2; 25.2; 26.4; 27.2; 28.1; 29.2; 34.2) and also in the books of 1-2 Kings. But what is somewhat unusual here is the addition of the word good in this expression. What Asa did was according to the divine standard of conduct, so God was pleased with it. Instead of in the eyes of the LORD, in some languages it will be more natural to say “in the presence of the LORD” or “before the LORD.” NET Bible expresses this whole verse as “Asa did what the LORD his God desired and approved.”
