Translation commentary on 2 Chronicles 12:11

And as often as the king went into the house of the LORD: And renders the Hebrew verbal transition that is sometimes translated “And it came to pass.” However, most versions, including even King James Version, omit it at this point. As often as may be rendered “Whenever” (New Revised Standard Version, New International Version) or “Each time” (La Bible du Semeur; similarly Bible en français courant).

The guard came and bore them, and brought them back to the guardroom: The guard renders the same Hebrew word as in the previous verse. The pronoun them refers to the bronze shields, which may be made explicit as in Good News Translation and Revised English Bible. The guardroom refers to a place in the Temple where the ceremonial equipment used by the king’s guards was stored since such items were used only on special occasions. New Jewish Publication Society’s Tanakh refers to this room as “the armory of the guards.”
