Then they burned incense on the altar and lighted the lamps on the lampstand, and these gave light in the temple: Good News Bible concludes this verse with “and there was light in the Temple!” and Contemporary English Version says “filling the temple with light.” These renderings show the drama of this moment. Even though this drama is not necessarily indicated by the Greek, which says simply that the lamps shone inside the Temple, translators would not be wrong to follow Good News Bible or Contemporary English Version.
