But Judas heard of it may be rendered “But Judas found out what Gorgias was planning” (Contemporary English Version).

And he and his mighty men moved out: His mighty men means simply “his soldiers” (Contemporary English Version). Moved out may be rendered “left their camp” (Contemporary English Version).

To attack the king’s force in Emmaus: Contemporary English Version has a good model here, saying “to attack the troops that Gorgias had left behind at Emmaus.”

An alternative model for this verse is:

• But Judas found out [or, learned] what Gorgias was planning to do. So he and his men left their camp to attack the king’s soldiers who were still at Emmaus….
