Translation commentary on 1 Maccabees 11:45

We do not recommend a paragraph break here, since there is a close connection between this verse and the previous one (see the comments there).

Then the men of the city assembled within the city, to the number of a hundred and twenty thousand, and they wanted to kill the king: The mob in Antioch probably included many of the dismissed soldiers. Again Good News Bible provides a good model, but we would say “in the center of the city” instead of simply “in the city.” This is in the Greek, and it adds to the drama of the scene.
