Translation commentary on 1 Esdras 6:26

And that the holy vessels of the house of the Lord, both of gold and of silver, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the house in Jerusalem and carried away to Babylon should be restored to the house in Jerusalem, to be placed where they had been: See verses 18-19; see also the comments on 1 Esd 1.41 and 2.10. This verse continues what King Cyrus “ordered” (verse 24) in his decree. Good News Bible does well to make a separate sentence of it, and so does Contemporary English Version as follows:

• Gather together all the sacred gold and silver things that Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to Babylonia. Then return these things to their proper places.

Another possible model is:

• As for the sacred objects of gold and silver that Nebuchadnezzar took from the Lord’s Temple in Jerusalem and carried off to Babylon, these should be taken back to the Temple and placed where they had been before.”
