Translation commentary on 1 Chronicles 7:8

The sons of Becher …: Becher was one of Benjamin’s sons (verse 6). Nine sons of Becher are listed, and Good News Translation adds the number “nine” for the sake of clarity.

The name Eli-o-enai is hyphenated in Revised Standard Version (also Living Bible [Living Bible]), perhaps in an attempt to show the constituent elements more clearly. This Hebrew name is used of six different people in the Old Testament and apparently means “my eyes toward Yahweh.” However, the practice of highlighting the different elements by the use of hyphens is unnecessary since this is not done for other names that are equally meaningful in Hebrew.
