Exegesis:

elegen de kai pros tous mathētas ‘he said also to the disciples,’ though the Pharisees heard it too (cf. v. 14). This means that what follows is primarily intended for the disciples as contrasted with what precedes (cf. 15.3).

anthrōpos tis ēn plousios hos eichen oikonomon ‘there was a rich man who had a manager.’ Of the two facts related in this sentence, i.e. that the man was rich, and that he had a manager, the latter is the more relevant to what follows. plousios is attributive to anthrōpos tis. For oikonomos cf. on 12.42.

kai houtos dieblēthē autō hōs diaskorpizōn ta huparchonta autou ‘and this one was reported to him as squandering his property.’ houtos refers to the manager, and autō and autou refer to the rich man. For diaskorpizō cf. on 15.13; for ta huparchonta cf. 8.3.

diaballō ‘to accuse,’ ‘to bring charges against someone,’ usually with hostile intent.

Translation:

There was a rich man who had a steward, or, ‘a certain (cf. on 7.41) rich man had a steward.’ For steward, or, ‘manager,’ ‘secretary/bookkeeper’ (Sranan Tongo), see on 12.42.

Charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his goods, usually to be recast, and the participants to be specified, cf. e.g. ‘people came bringing charges to the rich man, saying the steward was wasting his (i.e. the master’s) goods’ (Thai 1967), ‘he was told that one was using-up what belonged to his master’ (Tzeltal), ‘who was exposed to him because he was wasting his (unambiguous, since a reference to the steward would require another pronoun) goods’ (Fulah 1964), ‘some people accused the steward, may be he was wasting the goods of that man’ (Trukese, Pohnpeian); or, in direct discourse, ‘people told him, “Your steward is wasting your property”, or, “He is causing your wealth to fly away” ’ (Marathi).
