stuffed with fat

In Gbaya, the notion of being stuffed with fat (as in the literal reading of the French Traduction œcuménique de la Bible [Ils sont bouffis de graisse]) in Psalms 17:10 is emphasized with vɔtɔk, an ideophone that designates the bloated shape of a well-filled bag or of an obese person.

Ideophones are a class of sound symbolic words expressing human sensation that are used as literary devices in many African languages. (Source: Philip Noss)
