8:6a

In the Greek, 8:6a begins with a word that is usually translated as “For.” Here this word probably indicates a continuation of the same connection as the “For” in 8:5a. In some languages another word would be used for that meaning. For example:

In some languages, it may be most natural to omit this word and leave the connection to 8:4 implicit, as the Berean Standard Bible does.

The mind of the flesh is death: The Greek is literally “the mind of the flesh death.” The verb is was not written in the Greek because the Greek does not use it in these cases, but it is necessary for natural English. The Greek indicates here that a mind set on the flesh results in death. Here are other ways to translate this clause:

a mind set on ⌊the desires of⌋ the body results in death
-or-
a mind focused on ⌊the deeds of⌋ the body leads to death

The mind of the flesh: The Greek word that the Berean Standard Bible translates as The mind here refers to the ability to focus one’s mind on something. It is similar in meaning to “set their minds on” in 8:5b. Here are other ways to translate this phrase:

mind governed by the flesh (New International Version (2011))
-or-
the mind set on human nature
-or-
the mind full of the natural self

8:6b

life: Here this word refers to the new life we have in Christ while here on this earth as well as eternal life with God. Your translation should allow or indicate that meaning.

peace: Here this word refers to well-being and being free from troubles. See how you translated this word in 2:10 or 3:17.
