While they were there: The pronoun they refers to Joseph and Mary. The word there refers to the town of Bethlehem. During the time that Joseph and Mary were in Bethlehem, Jesus was born.

the time came for her Child to be born: The Berean Standard Bible translates this with a passive verb, but in Greek this clause is active, literally “the days were completed for her to give birth.” This indicates that the baby in Mary’s womb had matured and her body was ready to give birth. Some languages may have an idiom for this. Another way to say this, with an active verb, is:
the time came for Mary to give birth to her baby
