Section 9:1-6

The leaders of Shechem made Abimelek king of their town

9:1a Now Abimelech son of Jerubbaal went to his mother’s brothers at Shechem

Abimelek, a son of Jerub-Baal/Gideon, went to Shechem town to the brothers of his mother.
-or-
One day, Gideon’s son Abimelek went to the town of Shechem to see his maternal uncles.

9:1b and said to them and to all the clan of his mother,

He said to them in the presence of his mother’s entire family,

He said to them and to all his mother’s relatives:
