8:27a From all this Gideon made an ephod,

With the gold Gideon made a shirt ⌊woven from gold thread⌋

8:27b which he placed in Ophrah, his hometown.

which he put in his town, in Ophrah.

8:27c But soon all Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there,

All the people of Israel abandoned God and went to worship it.

The Israel people worshiped this shirt. ⌊Like men who are unfaithful to their wives⌋ they were unfaithful to Yahweh.

8:27d and it became a snare to Gideon and his household.

And so it became a trap to Gideon and his family.

This idol became ⌊like⌋ a trap to Gideon and his family, ⌊and they worshiped it instead of worshiping Yahweh⌋ .
