6:25a On that very night the LORD said to Gideon,

That night Yahweh said to him,

6:25b “Take your father’s young bull and a second bull seven years old,

“Take a seven-year-old bull from your (sing.) father’s herd.

“Take a bull from your father’s herd of cattle, the one that is seven years old. It is a second-born bull ⌊because the first-born bulls have been offered to Yahweh⌋ .

6:25c tear down your father’s altar to Baal,

Tear down the altar of Baal that your father made
-or-
Then destroy the platform where your father ⌊worships⌋ the god Baal.

6:25d and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.

and cut down the pole to honor ⌊the goddess⌋ Asherah that is beside it.

Cut down the pole ⌊where people worship the goddess⌋ Asherah that is beside it.
